SWLA is now faced with the devastation left by Hurricane Laura. Although a strong, resilient people, rebuilding can be a long, difficult road. No matter the size of your loss, Lundy, Lundy, Soileau & South is here to help. Making a claim with your Insurance Company is vital to recouping your loss; however, the claim brings with it a home inspection with an Insurance Adjuster.

PREPARE for the Appointment with the Insurance Adjuster:
  • Take/gather photos of damage to your home and personal property
  • Copy receipts for related hurricane-related expenses (1 for you, 1 for the Insurance Adjuster)
  • Copy any relevant documents (1 for you, 1 for the adjuster)
  • Create and keep a running list of damages to point out to the Insurance Adjuster
  • Create and keep a running list of questions to ask the Insurance Adjuster

PARTICIPATE in your Home Inspection:
  • Walk through/around the home with the Insurance Adjuster
  • Point out damage to your home and personal property-- each and every item, large and small
  • Ensure the Insurance Adjuster takes photos of everything (including items you have already photographed)
  • Make sure the Insurance Adjuster documents ALL of your damages

QUESTION the Insurance Adjuster as needed:
  • What information do you need from me if any?
  • What documentation do you need from me if any?
  • What do I need to keep and/or send to the Insurance Adjuster or my Insurance Company?
  • How do I get reimbursed for hurricane-related expenses I have already incurred?
  • Can I begin repairing or replacing my property?
  • Can the hurricane-related vendors, i.e. tarping company, invoice my Insurance Company directly or do I have to pay them and provide documentation for reimbursement to the Insurance Adjuster or my Insurance Company?
  • When will you (the Insurance Adjuster) provide my damage estimate?
  • Who should I contact with questions or to submit additional information as the claim progresses?
  • How long does it take to get an insurance claim check from my Insurance Company?

REMEMBER:
  • The Insurance Adjuster works for the insurance company (not for you)
  • The information provided to and gathered by the Insurance Adjuster essentially IS your claim
  • The information provided to and gathered by the Insurance Adjuster is transferred to your Insurance Company
  • If the Insurance Adjuster does not have information regarding a particular damage, loss, etc., your Insurance Company does not have it before them when making decisions regarding your claim
  • Keep notes regarding the inspection including any answers the Insurance Adjuster provides to your questions, what time the Insurance Adjuster arrives how long the inspection lasts, any damages the Insurance Adjuster refuses to include and/or any damages the Insurance Adjuster seems to discount.
